With the heartfelt commitment of everyone on our incredible team, we‘re turning the Nawalakw vision into reality. We take great pride in the local employment we provide to Indigenous youth and community members. Working with Nawalakw has provided some members of our team the opportunity to move back home, or to travel from their homes to come work in our territory.
Nawalakw is part of the rising tide of cultural and economic revival of our surrounding communities and strives to create positive social impacts. Through direct employment and indirectly through contracting, in 2020 Nawalakw employed over 60 people. We have a core team of ten employees and five Kwak’wala language apprentices, a camp cook and caretakers. We’ve also employed 19 Kwakwaka’wakw youth through the Canada Summer Jobs Program to assist in various programs – from food security and garden programs, to working in the office, to assisting in the building of the culture camp.
As an Indigenous-led Kwakwaka’wakw organization Nawalakw preferentially hires Indigenous team members, and where possible, we source goods and services from Indigenous led-organizations who aim to hire locally and from community.
We are in the midst of positive growth and currently have new job openings for the following roles: • Language Program Director • Health Program Coordinator
Please keep in touch as we expect to have more opportunities in 2021. Check out our Facebook Page to read the job descriptions and send us an email at admin@nawalakw.com to apply.
