“Expect the unexpected. Hope for the best, and plan for the worst.”
My dad said these words to me often, amongst many other weird dad-isms forever burned in my memory. And as I grow older, I’ll sheepishly admit that maybe there was a lot of wisdom in those words.
Construction of our camp facility at Hada is almost complete (more about that in another post) and we are SO excited to welcome our first school groups this fall. In anticipation of start-up, our team has been hard at work preparing for safe outdoor adventures at Hada.
In addition to completing Bear Safety, Small Vessel boat Operator Training, Wilderness First Aid, Food Safe, COLT, and other certifications, the team has been planning and practicing risk management skills that include fire safety, site management and other health and safety protocols.
We are extremely grateful to have one of the region’s best and most experienced leaders in this discipline working with our team.
Francisco Escobar of Gear Up Adventures is a former member of the military, an experienced expedition leader and no stranger to creating safe and memorable outdoor adventures. For the past decade, he’s been creating luxury personally curated and customized off-the-beaten-path experiences for guests in Chile, Argentina and Canada. Most recently, he was a guide and Director of Excellence with Nimmo Bay Resort.
Francisco has graciously donated his time and specialized expertise to create a tailored site safety plan for Nawalakw and complete training exercises with our team. We did drills including fire suppression, mock extractions for injured parties, off-grid communications protocols and more!
Gilakas’la! Thank you Francisco for sharing your wealth of knowledge and helping us prepare for safe operations, hoping for the best and planning for that, and everything else!
